I wanted to share with you some of the work I have been doing with the development of my therapeutic movement method I call "Conscious Movement." You may have some questions such as: I have never heard of Conscious Movement. What is it? What’s the purpose? Can I do this work even if I have not had traditional movement classes like yoga, Tai Chi, or dance? How is it beneficial? Will I lose weight or learn a routine? Is it fun? I will answer these questions and then end by asking you some questions and proposing some ideas for you to be curious about.

WHAT IS IT?

To move your body with consciousness is to be deeply connected to the ground of your being. This goes beyond just "doing" at the physical level to "being" at the level of “presence.” In Conscious Movement Process Work we explore awareness of breathing, muscle tension, emotional energy, and relationship to our bodies and the space around us.

THE PURPOSE

The purpose of Conscious Movement is clearing blockage in your life through attending to the messages from your body. Your body responds to imbalance in your life. Imbalance may be experienced as frustration, depression, anger problems (either expressed or unexpressed,) general unhappiness, lack of loving relationships, unfulfilled needs, or unrealized dreams. When your life experience is filled with one or more of the above, it shows up in your body as acute or chronic cycles of pain, tension, and disease. Working gently in class to become aware, through your moving body, of the underlying and sometimes unconscious patterns of negativity and false belief, allows you to heal at the deepest level.

This is a different approach from our learned concept of healing, which is to take away the symptom. Many of you visit your chiropractor, massage therapist, or other health care professional on a regular basis. Your desire is to have the pain or discomfort relieved. The pain returns and you must go back over and over again. No one wants to be in pain, but realize that these visits are more helpful if you are also working on the underlying dis-ease patterns consciously. Consider the messages from your body. What are the patterns there? Consider that there may be a deeper message from your body asking you to pay attention to this pattern and to really work with it. Deep listening in movement allows you to become aware of the holding that keeps the pattern in place. As leader I hold the space for connecting to essential internal rhythms and releasing these personal patterns that block core energy. I have many years of experience as a guide in this process and I consider it an honor to do this work.

DO I NEED EXPERIENCE WITH MOVEMENT OR DANCE?

Conscious Movement is not difficult because the movement is taken as far as you desire, are capable of, or are ready to go. There is some direction by me and then the client takes the directions in his/her own way, as I guide the process through gentle suggestion. It is a place where we honor each other and each other's privacy in personal exploration. It is not a test of your creativity. It is not a place to evaluate creations and there is no performance. The challenge with the work is personal. This is different from many typical movement experiences that compare one against the other. There is no winner or loser in Conscious Movement and no way to “do it wrong.” There is no routine to learn and you will lose weight if that is a way you block your creativity. This is a time for you to look deep inside and reveal the truth of your life to yourself. It is a hero/heroine's journey and is not for everyone. It takes courage to look at yourself, take responsibility for your creations, and then choose to create what you really want in your life.

THE BENEFITS

The benefits of Conscious Movement practice are many. You will experience renewed energy as you tap into your deeper self and create a way to move out of old patterns and find new choices. As you practice this in session it will impact your life outside of the work. You will learn to honor yourself in relationship with yourself, your partner, co-workers, and friends. Shifts in your perception will occur as your awareness builds through your participation in Conscious Movement. Those events or words which triggered you to fear, anger, or grief before will not have the impact they once had. The pain in your physical body reduces as you get better at feeling the emotion holding it in place.

So ask yourself....How are my relationships? What things in my life experience trigger me to fear, anger, or grief? And how is my body? Do I like my body? Where is there pain (physical, emotional, mental confusion, relationships?) How long have I been holding that pain? Be kind to yourself and most of all be kind to yourself in pain. Hold yourself with the very tenderness that you would hold a new born child. Come join me in individual sessions or group practice. Is it fun? What wouldn't be fun about letting go of the patterns that limit you? The goal is to "get better at feeling so you can feel better." This is a time for you to look deep inside and reveal the truth of your life to yourself. It is a hero/heroine's journey and is not for everyone.
